Why do seemingly ordinary PEOPLE PARTICIPATE IN, AND CONDONE, THE MURDER OF millions?
The genocide in Darfur is described as Arab vs. African conflict; but it is more economic than ethnic. In 1980, drought, famine, and the spread of desert lands caused small tribes and farmers to claim as much land as they could for farming crops and gather resources. The claimed land soon blocked Arabic herding routes. In desperate attempt to get water to their animals, the Arabic nomads attempted to force the routes open by attacking farmers who blocked their path. This soon encouraged other nomads to attack the tribes in order to get their herds to water.
The people felt that they were helping themselves by hurting other people that were their enemies in the previous Civil War. This was partially caused by tensions and cruelty towards the south from the previous war.
